The Manufacturing Institute’s President, Jennifer McNelly, attended and presented as a keynote speaker at the 2013 HVACR & Mechanical Conference for Education Professionals. The event is “dedicated to enhancing the skills and knowledge of instructors and administrators of apprentice and secondary/post-secondary, school-based programs of HVACR and mechanical industries at all levels”. Over 150 education and key association leaders joined McNelly in a discussion around the need of certifications to ensure a qualified workforce.
McNelly spoke to employer engagement as a key tool in attracting qualified workers. She focused her presentation around the the NAM-Endorsed Manufacturing Skills Certification System. A set of nationally portable, industry-recognized manufacturing skills certifications, the System is building the next generation of skilled manufacturing employees by influencing secondary and post-secondary education reform efforts in over 35 states which is building the next generation of skilled talent. McNelly also presented Dream It. Do It., Manufacturing Day and the Manufacturer’s Pledge as methods to mobilize action.
