As COVID-19 coronavirus continues to spread worldwide, CMS/Nextech is following recommendations from various organizations such as the CDC, WHO, OSHA, and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) to aid our customers in their response planning.
ASHRAE’s President has stated “While ASHRAE supports expanded research to fully understand how coronavirus is transmitted, we know that healthy buildings are a part of the solution.” Since small particles remain airborne for some period of time, the design and operation of HVAC systems can affect disease transmission.
Regardless of whether a site remains open or is closed due to safety concerns/regulations, our team has researched the attached and below guidelines to address the maintenance and operations of your HVAC systems.
CMS/Nextech has the training and equipment to help combat the coronavirus using an exclusive disinfectant process involving the EPA-registered chemical BioCide 100.
Here are some do’s and don’ts of HVAC:
Do:
- Clean and sanitize HVAC equipment
- Replace filters with MERV-13 media filters
- Supply clean air to occupants
- Exhaust contaminated air outdoors
Don’t:
- Turn units off
- Close outside air dampers
- Put units in setback mode
To properly clean your HVAC system, contact us to schedule the following:
- Remove all filters and properly dispose. (Upgrading filters to a minimum of Merv-8 Pleated Filters is recommended. Merv-13 Filters are optimal to prevent any buildup and minimize the number of airborne particles in your building.)
- Clean the Evaporator, Condenser Coils, and Blower Wheels with proper coil cleaner.
- Treat the inside Cabinet, Coils, Blower Wheel, and all internal air systems with BioCide 100.
- After appropriate waiting period, Indoor fan will be turned on. The Coils and Blower Wheel area will be treated again.
- After completion, all systems will be re-started and operations will be checked.
- Positive pressure will be confirmed, and a technician will determine if balancing is required.
